Connection terms on smart adult products can be confusing because the phone, app and device may use more than one technology. Bluetooth usually handles the nearby device connection, while long-distance control often depends on the internet through the app.
Bluetooth is designed for nearby connections
Bluetooth works best when the phone and device are in the same general area. Walls, bodies and interference can reduce practical range. It is useful for same-room control but is not, by itself, a long-distance technology.
Internet-based control adds distance
Some apps connect the device locally by Bluetooth and then relay a remote partner’s commands over the internet. That is how “control from anywhere” usually works. The exact setup varies by brand.
Wi-Fi labels can be misleading
A product may be described as Wi-Fi or long-distance even if the device itself does not connect directly to a home router. Read the support documentation rather than relying on a headline.
Privacy changes when accounts are involved
Internet control often requires an account, invitation or pairing code. Check whether partner access can be revoked, what permissions the app requests and whether account deletion is available.
See our app-controlled guide for the broader buying checklist.
We prioritize fit, material clarity, ease of cleaning, privacy, warranty and useful features. Partner relationships do not change our basic evaluation criteria.
